IMPSA won approval of a long-term financing of the Corporation Andina de Fomento (CAF) and the Bank for Investment and Foreign Trade (BICE) in favor of its subsidiary Wind Koluel Kayke SA for construction of a wind power generation located in the Province of Santa Cruz. The project called Koluel Kayke II, have a capacity of 25 MW and will have 12 wind turbine technology developed by IMPSA in the country.

The investment will amount to $US 81 million, of which $US 52 million will be provided by the CAF and the BICE together in a 10-year loan. IMPSA in turn provide capital for $US 29 million to complete the project financing.

The financing will be structured under a scheme of “Project Finance” pure, which combine investor capital funds and financial institutions. The repayment will come from cash flows from the sale of energy under contract ENARSA a 15-year term. The project has a strong insurance scheme, technological safeguards and additional guarantees on assets Kayke II Kolulel usual in such operations.

IMPSA has already completed the engineering, soil studies and planning has begun the work and the purchase of inputs and components to make the park begin to generate in 14 months.

This event contributes to the consolidation of the objectives of the Renewable Generation Program (Genre), driven by the Ministry of Planning through the Ministry of Energy and its executor ENARSA. The Program established the framework for clean energy development in Argentina. In this way, it contributes with the aim of Law 26,190, which is to ensure that 8% of national energy from renewable sources by 2016.

For the construction of their projects in Argentina, in the case of wind farms and, in particular, the wind turbines (windmills), IMPSA design uses its technology fully developed in Argentina Mendoza. Manufactured at the plant and through a network of SME companies Argentine Wind Cluster members, which is currently in action.

IMPSA, through its unit IMPSA Energy has become the biggest investor in wind power projects in Latin America now has 322 MW in operation in Brazil and has 600 MW in the same country with the purchase and sale of energy signed and under construction and financing, and another 65 MW in Uruguay in the final stages of financing.
Moreover, the company is facing an impending financial close for Malaspina Park I 50 MW in the province of Chubut and is moving in the financial structuring for parks Koluel Kayke I (Santa Cruz) and Malaspina II (Chubut) .

In addition IMPSA installed for the Province of La Rioja Arauco wind farm already in operation and has a capacity of 25 MW and is building for the same additional 25 MW plus 10 MW of wind power for the Province of Santiago del Estero and 180 MW to the Brazilian company of San Francisco Hydroelectric Company (Chesf) in Brazil.

The Spinning Spur Wind Project, located in Oldham County, west of Amarillo, Texas, is the first wind farm in Texas enXco. It has 70 turbines Siemens with a capacity of 2.3 MW.

The electricity produced will be sold to the U.S. company Southwestern Public Company, a 100% subsidiary of Xcel Energy, as part of a contract for sale of electricity (PPP) for a period of 15 years.

Construction should start in the first half for a start-up of the park in December 2012.

“The situation of the U.S. wind market and uncertainty about the renewal of tax credits (Production Tax Credit) in 2012 after creating partnership opportunities with major developers like Cielo Wind Power. This is especially a great opportunity for us to invest the Texas market as a producer of wind power,” said David Corchia, CEO of EDF Energies Nouvelles.

Catalonia has overcome the barrier of 1,000 megawatt wind after increasing installed wind power capacity by 18.4 percent during 2011, thanks to the launch of six new wind farms, two of them only partially, for a total of 156 , 98 MW.

Wind turbines for wind farms already provide Catalans 4.2% of electricity consumption and prevent the emission of 4.2 million tons of CO2.

The first turbine wind farm Forques I-II (Tarragona), developed by Gamesa Energy, and recently acquired by Fenosa Gas Natural Renewables, which has been sealed remarkable figure of 1,000 MW. However, the last to be launched this year have been the four turbines of the second phase of the wind farm’s Throat Coll (Priorat, Ribera d’Ebre), driven by EDP Renovaveis.

EolicCat president, Ramon Carbonell, described the landmark figure, but believes that wind power still has a long journey in Catalonia.

In fact, according to the Energy Plan 2006-2015 of the Government of the Generalitat, the roadmap for implementation is still in force wind, the target is 3,500 MW of installed wind power in Catalonia in 2015.

Catalonia has a total of 36 wind farms in operation that produce about 2,100 GWh annually, equivalent to 4.2% of electricity consumption of the Catalan community.

The electrical output of these wind farms in one year equals the annual electricity consumption of more than 640,000 Catalan homes (1.92 million people or whatever it is, a larger city than Barcelona).

Environmentally, this figure prevents the emission into the atmosphere of 2.1 million tons of CO2, the main greenhouse gas (if the same electricity was produced in coal power plants), the equivalent of removing 700,000 circulation cars for a year.

According to Spanish Wind Energy Association (AEE), Catalonia ranks eighth in the ranking of regions producing wind energy.

The explanation given by the local newspaper is: “While a first blade broke away from the wind and crashed into a nearby field in the course of the night, a large part of a second the right blade collapsed mast Thursday in the late morning. ”

It appears that wind gusts over 110 km / h were recorded by the meteorological services for several hours.

The turbine in question is located in the parking Widehem located between Boulogne-sur-Mer and Etaples (Pas-de-Calais) with a capacity of 4.5 MW intallée. Commissioned between 2000 and 2001, each of the six wind turbines of type “Jeumont J48/750″ develops an output of 750 kW and a diameter of 48 meters. The height of the platform is 46 meters.

The group Poweo is the developer, while the operator remains Sorgenia France.

Statistically, the number, such accidents happen inevitably. But it could be even more serious as this video shows in Denmark (Nordthank Park), where we see a wind turbine (Vestas model?) Literally explode (manufacturing problem, wear?).

The French company Vergnet examined the subject in tropical areas and has developed a concept that secures the turbine to the ground in case of cyclone!

Nordex has received its largest contract farm in Ireland. The wind power project is called “Garracummer” is located in County Tipperary, and will have 17 wind turbines N90/2500.

“Garracummer” of 42.5 megawatts, is the largest Nordex wind farm in Ireland. The other two Nordex wind projects in Ireland are “Knockawarriga” with 22.5 megawatts and “Kilgarvan”, with 32.5 megawatts. Nordex built these wind farms with SWS, a wind power developer, which was acquired by Bord Gais in 2009.

The wind energy market in Ireland in 2011 has been a good year for Nordex. The manufacturer of wind turbines installed the first turbine in 2002. In 2010, the company founded an Irish subsidiary based in Swords, near Dublin. Today there are over 60 Nordex wind turbines operating in Ireland, with a capacity of 150 megawatts.

The company engaged in the manufacture of small wind turbines, Sonkyo Energy, announced that eight WINDSPOT wind turbines were installed at the Princess Elisabeth station in Antarctica.

In a statement, Sonkyo Energy explains that in this station, which is self-sufficient with renewable energy, the key aspects of climate change and biodiversity studies are investigated.

Sonkyo notes that facility has been working on wind energy devices on all continents. In countries like the U.S., Taiwan or China, has already installed over 350 wind turbines in places such as farms, parks, communication towers or universities.

The WINDSPOT is a specialized wind turbine of small wind power, with power system performance, and features that make it particularly suitable for such more isolated facilities.

In this case, the order is directed to the South Pole, where the International Polar Foundation in 2008 built a research station called Princess Elisabeth Antarctica, the first “Zero Emissions” station built on this continent.

In this regard, Sonkyo indicates that an order has been required to adapt WINDSPOT characteristics, ready to withstand high wind gusts, to circumstances such as extreme cold of the austral winter.

Therefore, at the headquarters of Sonkyo Energy in the industrial area of Raos, the research and design WINDSPOT team worked on a special coating to the blades of the turbines, which has added Teflon to make the ice slide and the snow does not settle in them.

Also the hydraulic system using oil was replaced by other special aviation system supporting the -65 degrees Celsius. Moreover, all the machine has been treated with a special varnish antifreeze.

According to Sonkyo, WINDSPOT wind turbines have been chosen for its resistance to high winds and being able, thanks to its patented variable pitch, to continue production in condition of strong winds, quite common in this area of the globe.

Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa and Senegal installed its first wind turbines.

The Minister of Energy and Water, João Borges, announced the construction next year, the first wind and solar energy in the province of Namibe, with a capacity of 20 megawatts in the first phase. The wind power company Vestas, the largest wind turbine manufacturer, is present in Angola since a few months ago.

João Borges, who spoke yesterday during the New Year greetings to employees, said the goal in the future is to increase the capacity of renewable energy project to 100 megawatts.

For next year, also announced a strategy for renewable energy development, to allow access of the rural population to renewable energy and electrification.

The Minister of Energy and Water stressed that one of the challenges that the sector is driving the creation of conditions for renewable energy become a reality in the country.

The minister acknowledged that the electricity supply is still “well below the need,” noting that the average coverage rate across the country is below 50 percent.

The Executive Branch, since 2008, developing a program of expansion and rehabilitation of the electricity sector, and rehabilitation extends to 2013. “We have achieved important results in the recovery of energy generation in different infrastructures destroyed during the war,” he said.

João Borges said the program was recently approved to build a 450 MW thermal capacity, so that next year will reduce the deficit that occurs in the country.

Also for 2012, announced the improvement of power supply with the installation of 495 MW to supply the provinces of Luanda, Cabinda, Huambo, Benguela, Kuando Kubango, Cunene, Huila and Lunda Norte.

The federal government yesterday approved funding for the construction of a photovoltaic solar power plant in California and Oregon wind farm will generate 379 megawatts together renewable energy, enough to power 112,500 homes and help to create over 600 jobs.

These would be the renewable energy projects number 26 and 27 respectively supported by the Department of the Interior over the past two years.

“As we continue to actively and swiftly moving into the future of renewable energy these projects strengthen local economies by creating good jobs and sustainable energy,” said Ken Salazar, Secretary of the Interior.

In California, Solar Energy Project Sentinel is a solar power plant of 275 megawatts that will connect through the Imperial Valley Substation in San Diego Gas & Electric. This plant will create 367 jobs, generating more than $ 30 million in taxes during the life of the project, while providing enough electricity to supply about 82,500 homes.

The Oregon project, North Steens Transmission Line, is a line of 44 miles that will generate power for about 30,000 homes, 4.5 million in local tax revenue over the life of the project. Both projects were subject to extensive environmental review to mitigate any potential advance environmental impact, authorities said.

Because development on private land is connected to the federal law Pathways to transmission lines and can not proceed without approval from the Department of the Interior, the Environmental Impact Report and Environmental Assessment had to consider the impact of any generation and transmission projects, including the component that they will be located on private land.

Located in Fengtun, near Mount Dajianfeng Mouding district of Yunnan-Guizhou plateau, the wind power plant has a height of between 2,000 and 2,500 meters above sea level, according to the wind turbine supplier Xinjiang Goldwind Science and Technology, which provided 33 wind turbines permanent magnet direct drive (no gearbox) of 1.5 megawatts.

The wind farm construction lasted 15 months and had an investment of 483 million yuan (76.7 million). The upland areas are highly valued because they offer promising prospects for energy companies and wind turbine manufacturers for its abundant resources.

“We have designed new models of wind turbines with larger wind blades and better insulation techniques and protection against lightning and radiation,” said Wu Gang, president of Goldwind. At the same time, many wind turbine manufacturers have expressed a strong interest in the market of products designed especially for the plateaus.

In November, CSR Zhuzhou manufacturer reported that it had connected the two wind turbines installed in wind farms in Yunnan to the grid, which was a hit for power generation in the highlands.

To date, CSR Zhuzhou has received orders for more than 400 units of this type of special turbines, a figure that puts the company in the first place in terms of market share of resources for plateaus.

In turn, Huaneng Power and Renewables Longyuan, who pioneered the exploration of wind resources in China, have chosen the southwestern province of Guizhou as a priority to carry out its development projects wind resources. Guizhou aims to reach an installed capacity of wind power generation from nine gigawatts of 2020.

Until late 2010, China recorded an installed capacity of wind power generation of 44.7 gigawatts, replacing the United States in the first wind power production, and plans to increase the number to 100 gigawatts by 2015.

Currently, about 90 percent of China’s wind power is below 1,000 meters above sea level. Experts have noted that the plateaus exploration is expensive because of high construction costs and uncertainty about whether the projects would generate profits.

On the occasion of the conference EWEA Offshore 2011 by European Association of Wind Energy in Amsterdam, the first offshore wind type of 4.1-113 U.S. manufacturer General Electric (GE) was installed in the port of Gothenburg.

This project marks the first commercial application of 4.1-113 GE model, a range of 4 megawatts of wind turbines designed to provide a higher level of reliability to the offshore wind industry.

With fewer moving parts, direct drive technology indeed offers a simple and reliable design integrated redundancy and partial operation for major components, all designed to maintain the operational reliability of the turbines at sea technology avoids direct transmission expensive parts for the multiplier and reduces operating costs. Moreover, according to GE, “the 4.1-113 blade design is optimized to maximize energy capture sites suitable for foundations monopieu type.”

Thus, the new turbine (113 meters in diameter) will be able to produce enough electricity to power 3,000 homes a year Swedish and reduce annual CO2 emissions by up to 15 000 tonnes.

“We are delighted that after two years of planning and coordination, all happen. The wind can not be in a better position: although installed on land and therefore easily accessible, it is on the seafront and then exposed weather conditions offshore. For the people of Gothenburg, this project is an important step for the success of our goal is to produce more green energy for the city and country, “said Jonas Cognell, Director of Renewable Energy in Göteborg Energi.
The turbine is installed Risholmsvägen, located at the entrance of the port and the gateway to Sweden, whose location is convenient from a logistical point of view. The nacelle, the tower and the blades will arrive by boat. The foundation of 21 meters in diameter is embedded in the rock through a technique of hype.

It is expected that the installation be completed by mid-December. The completion of the installation and connection to the grid are planned for later this year.

“We are very proud to help Sweden to expand its green energy through the installation of our first wind 4.1-113 in the port of Gothenburg,” said Vincent Schellings, Offshore Product Manager at GE Energy. “The offshore turbine 4.1-113 uses the direct transmission of the most successful in the industry, and is developed on the basis of our experience onshore models, we have over 17,000 units operating in the world.”

This is the first time that France reached an instantaneous wind power as high. Figures provided by the Union of renewable energy comes from the RTE base, éCO2mix, and relate to the day of December 7, 2011.

So Wednesday, early morning (around 8:45), when power consumption is particularly high in this time of year, wind energy has produced 6% of our national power.

According to the Renewable Energy Association (REA), “the figure shows the undeniable contribution of wind energy in the energy mix, which replaces electricity production from thermal power plants, operating from imported fuel and CO2 emissions. ”

He added “the power of the installed wind farm stands in late November 6500 MW. The Grenelle has set the industry a target of 25,000 MW in 2020, confirming the major role of this form of energy in the energy independence of our country and the fight against climate change. “

The Austrian federal state of Burgenland committed earlier in the renewable energy sector with the commissioning by 2013 of three new wind farms with a total capacity of 198 megawatts (MW).

These facilities will be funded with support from the European Investment Bank (EIB), in collaboration with the leasing company UniCredit Leasing Austria, will pay 200 million euros in the energy group BEWAG (Burgenländische Elektrizitätswirtschafts AG).

Burgenland is a pioneer in the field of energy production from renewable sources. Indeed, alternative energy sources to allow the region to cover two thirds of its electricity needs. If the Burgenland is a model in Europe today is also due to the great importance attaches to this area of research and technology.

The project has a BEWAG innovative nature of the commissioning of a commercial wind turbine with a capacity of 7.5 MW (Enercon – E126), constituting an unprecedented.

The installation will be performed Potzneusiedl, in eastern Burgenland. The same type of equipment, but whose ability was so far only 6 MW, is already operating successfully for some time. The resources available will also be used to finance two large wind farms in Andau / Albrechtsfeld (41 wind turbines for an installed capacity of 123 MW) and Mönchhof / Halbturn (17 wind turbines for an installed capacity of 51 MW). Six wind turbines (13.8 MW) will also be installed Kittsee, and one (2.3 MW) Deutschkreutz.

“The Burgenland is an example to follow, both in terms of volume of electricity produced from renewable energy sources for the high technology used in this context, and BEWAG has much to do. The group is an ideal partner for the EIB, through its funding, providing targeted support to the development of this sector in Europe, “said on the occasion of signing the contract Wilhelm Molterer, Vice President of the European Bank of investment.

The second wind farm project is underway

By 2015, the company Austrian Wind Power will set up about 90 wind turbines with a capacity of 270 MW at maximum, especially on the set of Parndorf. Once all the completed projects, wind farms Austrian Wind Power will have an installed capacity of 520 MW (at the current capacity of 242 MW should be added with a capacity of 270 MW).

The start of work given in May for the two most powerful wind turbines in the world marked the launch of the second wind project group BEWAG. “With these facilities, we live today wind technology of tomorrow. As a leading producer of wind power in Austria, we show that we are also pioneers of the technology and we focus on the latest techniques. These facilities are the symbol. They release maximum energy efficiency for minimum area occupied, “said Michael Gerbavsits, spokesman of the board of BEWAG.

The two super-wind turbines are mounted and in working order. The first plant will be commissioned in December, and the second in January.

“This project is proof that wind power is currently the solution of the most rational alternative. The wind turbines can be installed very quickly and have a high level of efficiency. With these two installations, electricity supply in the capital of Burgenland, Eisenstadt, could be ensured, “said Reinhard Schweifer, head of the board of BEWAG.

The objective within the strategy of “2013″ is that the amount of electricity produced from renewable energy enough to encompass the power consumption of the federal state. Burgenland has the title of European champion in the field of renewable energy.

A project profile for the installation of 14 wind turbines of electric power of 1.5 MW each was presented by a committee of the People’s Republic of China to Tarija, said Luis Paz, alternative energy consultant of the Interior.

At present, the document being scanned and then sign a contract to implement this benefit to the department. Paz said, “It should be noted that China is among the first countries based power generation from wind, and that this reference speaks of an experience in that field.”

The most suitable place has been located in the department is the town of Angostura. The mills are easy to install, however it must create the conditions for transfer, have a large capacity crane and quite high since the machines will be raised from 80 to 100 meters, while the blades are about 50 meters of long as the paper.

The wind project has a financing offer from the same Republic of China as a whole and the debt would be payable within 20 years, with the same income would generate, it will be interconnected to the national grid (SIN). Being a foreign-funded work, you must meet certain requirements at the national level the Ministry of Economy and Finance Department and the Legislative Assembly.

Finally, Paz said that this project would be the first at national level and put the department as a pioneer in alternative energy in Bolivia, so he said he is working for two wind measurement towers 70 to 80 meters

A subsidiary of the Altran Group has developed an innovative technology, a 3D radar for air traffic controllers to be able to distinguish between a plane turbine and rotating blades of a wind turbine.

Cambridge Consultants, a subsidiary of Altran, created Aveille, the 3D radar eliminates a major obstacle to the expansion of wind power and associated energy production. Indeed, one of the major obstacles to the deployment of wind farms is the current inability of air traffic controllers to separate aircraft turbine blades from a rotating turbine.

Aveille will therefore provide air traffic controllers and aerodrome radar data accurate, necessary to eliminate any potential confusion.

This technology eliminates the concerns inherent in security and defense of airspace, which inhibit growth in the sector of wind energy. In the UK, 66% of all wind farm projects, the equivalent 6.5 gigawatts of electricity is currently delayed.

The approach of Aveille in mitigating the effects of wind turbines is the result of a comprehensive work alongside the major players in the UK aviation and wind energy such as wind farm developers , airport operators, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and the Ministry of Defence (MoD). The result is a technology that promises to meet both civil and military requirements, to be profitable for smaller wind farms and create jobs in green energy.

“The launch of the technical solution of Aveille is an important step in the development of clean energy worldwide. The disruptive innovation meets the ambitious objectives set by governments in renewable energy, “said Philippe Salle, President and CEO of Altran.

The wind turbines will go to a wind farm near the capital of Croatia, Dubrovnik, consolidating the position of both companies in the Balkan country.

Later this month will launch the third wind farm in Croatia in Sibenik-Knin, Croatia and consolidating the leading country in wind power in the Balkans. The excavation and construction of the wind farm began last July at Brdo, near Sibenik Crno between Podi and cities Vrpolje and Danilo.

The completion of the works of the wind farm is planned for late autumn this year. The project involves an investment of 14.2 million euros. The wind farm developer is the company Tudic Elektrocentar.

The wind farm has seven wind turbines with a total capacity of 11 MW. The turbines of 1.5 MW wind turbine blades and the company produces Leitwind of Austria, with direct drive technology.

Ponikve wind farm, which is about 45 miles northwest of Dubrovnik, will become the third WPD wind farm in Croatia, following the Trtar-Krtolin and Orlice. WPD is developing the project with the help of a financing agreement of EUR 35 million with KfW IPEX and Renewable Energy Fund.

The German promoter scheduled to arrive to site wind turbines in the spring of 2012 and the connection of the park before the end of that year. The network connection permits have already been achieved.

In late 2010, wind in Croatia amounted to only 70 MW, according to the World Wind Energy Association (World Wind Energy Association). However, the Croatian Strategy of Energy has proposed 1,250 MW by 2020, reaching up to 20% renewable energy in the electricity mix of the country in that year. WPD states that, in addition to Croatia, now operates in twenty countries worldwide and has completed projects totaling about 2,100 MW. Also the developer has a portfolio of projects totaling 7 GW.

The $100 million wind farm project is located 70 miles southeast of Ulan Bator, Mongolia, and will be open in 2012. Electricity demand will double in Mongolia over the next 15 years. The Salkhit wind farm, driven by 1.6 MW wind turbines will generate 5% of electricity from Mongolia.

The entry into Mongolia is a strategic move by General Electric (GE), which aims to tap the growing demand for renewable energy in the regions around the world including Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Electricity demand in Mongolia is expected to double over the next 15 years. The GE wind turbines in Salkhit wind farm will generate about 5 percent of electricity of Mongolia. GE’s participation in the Salkhit wind project includes the supply of equipment and technical assistance in the installation and commissioning of wind turbines for wind power generation.

GE was represented at the signing ceremony by John Rice, Vice President and CEO of GE Global Growth. He was joined by Byambasaikhan Bayanjargal, CEO of Newcom. “The demand for energy in Mongolia increasing from 8 to 10 percent a year,” said Byambasaikhan. “The wind farm Salkhit help cover the growing demand for Mongolia and facilitate the development of railway infrastructure, roads and electricity infrastructure.”

In 2005, the Parliament of Mongolia adopted the National Renewable Energy Program, which aims to increase the share of renewable energies from 20 to 25 percent in 2020. Mongolia has an installed capacity of approximately 800 megawatts (MW). “This is a milestone in developing relations with Mongolia GE and our teamwork with Newcom. We are introducing advanced technology that paves the way for renewable energy projects and underscores our commitment to grow in one of the most difficult” said Rice.

Mongolia is becoming one of the fastest growing economies in the world, with the highest growth in the world with 17.3 percent in the first half of 2011 on year, according to the World Bank. Energy demand will double by 2015.

Researchers at the National Research Council (CSIC) have designed an indicator that can establish the relationship between bird abundance and location of wind turbines, so that it could minimize the number of deaths from the bird impact.

To install a wind farm in Spain is necessary to adopt an environmental impact assessment and an analysis of the points is its influence on the birds of the environment, for which the procedure is to count the number of birds that fly over the area before its construction.

However, CSIC researcher at the University Pablo de Olavide, Martina Reel, has stressed that this method has a “wide margin of error” because there may be fluctuations in busy areas by birds, for example, if there is a change position of food sources. “This count does not reflect the real relationship between the abundance of birds and their mortality,” she added.

Therefore, the team proposes the use of other descriptive variables of abundance consider the distance and size of breeding colonies and roosts for the species to develop an index to establish areas where the installation of wind turbines is “highly dangerous”.

The research used data from location and size of breeding colonies and roosts vultures in the province of Cadiz, and the situation of the 34 wind turbines wind farms in operation in the area ceded by the Board of Andalusia.

Thus, during the study, which began in 1998 and completed in 2008, 342 vultures were found dead in collisions with wind turbines of these facilities. The results show, according to the CSIC, the indicator developed is able to explain faithfully vulture mortality in these parks.

“A smaller distance between the turbines and roosting colonies of the species, combined with a high number of birds that use them, increasing the probability of collision,” says Roll, who also notes that “the mortality of this species in wind farms is concentrated in a few turbines. In this particular study area, all crashes were concentrated in 11 percent of the turbines. ”

Thus, the CSIC has stated that this work demonstrates that, if you have detailed information on the distribution of vulture colonies and their size can be spatial planning of wind farms and minimize mortality of these birds, which would make “effective” tool.

The two main U.S. parties have drawn up a bill that extends over four years the system of tax incentives for wind power and which, if successful, will boost the activity of Iberdrola in the country.

The group headed by Ignacio Sanchez Galan added more than 5,000 megawatts of renewable energy in the United States and has established itself, behind Florida Power, as the second company in the wind industry in the country, where the Obama administration spends part of his incentives the economic “green”. So far this year, the company has installed 524 MW and a total 5157 MW.

The proposal from Democrats and Republicans on tax incentives, known as PTC (Production Tax Credits), has been welcomed by the entire wind energy sector. The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) has shown its support for the initiative, which also extends support for hydropower, biomass, geothermal and waste from the city.

The association believes that “the support of both parties confirmed that the employment generated by U.S. wind energy is vital to both economic welfare and security of supply for the country” and notes that this sector is one of the most productive in the country.

In the past six years, manufacturing wind turbines in the United States has increased by twelve, to more than 400 plants in 43 states, where 75,000 people work. The industry estimates that could generate 500,000 jobs in the country over the next twenty years.

The PTC consist of a tax incentive to developers to help attract private capital to operate renewable energy projects. After four years of implementation, this incentive has attracted private investment in the country for a value close to $17,000 million (12,400 million euros).

The incentives expire in 2012 unless, as the Democrats and Republicans want to do now, the Congress extends them. The measure also has the support of a coalition of 24 state governors in favor of wind power.

While it is expected that the capacity of wind power generation in Mexico doubled in 2011 compared to last year, it still faces difficulties in funding and infrastructure that allows its use throughout the country, said the Mexican Wind Energy Association (AMDEE).

At the end of 2010 Mexico produced about 510 MW of electricity from wind power and is expected to reach 1,000 MW in 2011, representing about 2% of total generation capacity of the country. It is also estimated that by 2014 will generate about 2,600 MW to achieve a ratio of 5%.

The president of the AMDEE, Leopoldo Rodriguez highlighted the potential for further development of the wind industry by having regions important for their generation. However, he also mentioned that there are certain obstacles to better performance, such as having greater legal certainty for the development of this technology in the country.

On the one hand, said that although it is generally considered a potential wind energy generation of 15,000 to 20,000 MW, there are many conflicting figures and studies about it. So working on a joint study that offers a number and allow clearer definition of long-term objectives for the industry.

This is required to achieve the promotion of private investment in these projects, which give certainty to companies involved in the sector. In this regard, he mentioned that works to promote the manufacture of turbines in the country, “when we do, because there is a certainty at 10 or 15 years of industry development.”

Today it has developed in Mexico has been through foreign manufacture, so that Rodriguez give greater certainty necessary to attract the capital needed to boost the domestic wind industry.

In Mexico there are three major groups that make up the sector, including project developers to conduct studies and obtain financing, as well as equipment manufacturers and service providers.

The manager also felt that working on regulatory issues and infrastructure, from reaching the true potential of certain regions in the country. Although there is no significant progress yet, there has been a joint effort between private initiative and the Commission Federal de Electricidad (CFE) in the development of new power lines.

He explained that in the case of Oaxaca and other regions with high potential there is weakness or absence of electrical transmission networks, capable of transmitting the energy generated there to other entities in the country.

On the other hand, the current scheme to sell electricity to the CFE presents certain difficulties, and not offered a price sufficiently competitive and attractive to developers. So far there are self-supply schemes, as an independent producer and a third of small producers for projects up to 20 MW, he said.

The Isthmus of Tehuantepec is positioned as one of the most important regions for wind energy development. It also has a small project in Mexicali and plans for building in Chiapas, Jalisco, Veracruz, Zacatecas, Nuevo Leon, Baja California, San Luis Potosi and Tamaulipas.

Thus, given the potential and importance of wind power in the country, the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) will meet for the first time on Mexico Wind Power, to be known with international experience in the development of this type of projects and companies that offer everything from manufacturing to technology developers.

Lesotho, one of the poorest countries in Africa, plans to build wind farms and hydroelectric plants worth 11,000 million euros in financing China.

The authorities hope that the project, one of the most important in Africa, will provide an incentive to boost the economy of this country’s heart embedded in South Africa, where nearly half of its two million inhabitants survive on less than one euro a day .

“With this project, our country can go from being one of the least developed to become an emerging economy,” said the South African weekly Monyane Moleleki, Minister of Natural Resources of Lesotho.

The objective is to generate 6,000 megawatts of wind power and 4,000 from water, equivalent to 5 percent of the electricity needs of South Africa itself.

The wind farm will be installed in the Maluti mountains of over 3,000 meters, an area whose major drawbacks are its low winter temperatures to 20 degrees below zero, and lightning. It is expected that the investment is made over the next ten or fifteen years at this time to generate some 25,000 jobs.

China aims to become the leader in renewable energy. It is the major manufacturer of wind turbines and solar photovoltaic energy industry employs half a million people.

Wind power in China could reach 1000 GW of capacity by 2050. China continues to put emphasis on expanding the domestic sector of wind farms to help reduce emissions of CO2.

The latest evidence of the faith of wind power in China is presented in a report that predicts that there could be 1,000 GW of wind turbines installed in 2050. To put this figure in perspective, it is worth noting that the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) has reported that China was the world leader in wind power last year with a cumulative installed wind capacity of just over 42 GW.

The report was published last week by the National Energy Program and Reform Commission Research Institute (ERI, NDRC) and the International Energy Agency (IEA).

According to a press release, the IEA shows that the proportion of wind energy in electricity production in China could rise to 17% by mid-century compared to only 1% today.

“In 2050, wind power could be one of the most important energy sources, along with coal, hydro, solar and nuclear,” said Wang Zhongying, Director General of ERI. “It will play a vital role in China’s energy supply and our efforts to tackle climate change.”

The report was followed days later by an article in the Financial Times said that China is preparing for a downturn of 20% in wind turbine installations this year due to government regulation and tightening of the requirements of the grid. The history of the FT quoted an unnamed European turbine manufacturer executive saying that the wind turbine market in China faces a “bloodbath.”

As a region, GWEC has said that Europe was the world leader in cumulative wind capacity of 86 GW by the end of 2010, Asia ranked second with 58.6 GW and North America was third with 44.1 GW.

The European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) expects the European wind power capacity reaches 230 GW cumulative in 2020 and 400 GW in 2030.

EWEA also believes that wind power could generate up to 50% of EU electricity by 2050. Furthermore, with the EU planning to reduce emissions by 80-95% by the year 2050, the EU will have to completely abandon the use of coal power sector which would mean that wind power would provide much more that 17% of of electricity in Europe.

However, according to a study published in the online edition of “PLoS ONE” on 26 October, it is said that with better regional planning and an improved fit, the wind power could meet environmental concerns while reaching the development goals of the wind.

The work “The Nature Conservancy” is an analysis of impacts on wildlife of Kansas, describing how wind development could be extended while respecting the objectives of wildlife conservation.

Researchers have identified areas that should be “sanctified” to protect certain wildlife populations and habitats (ex. grasslands housing poultry and whooping cranes). They also quantified the level of “offset projects” that would be required to accept the ecological effects on the remaining spaces. The proposal suggests that an area of about 10 million hectares (about 50% of the State of Texas) could be devoted to the development of wind energy, which would lead to an installed capacity of up to 478 gigawatts of energy, while respecting the objectives of environmental conservation.

The authors suggest that “wind power can be developed in a way that is compatible with wildlife. Even after saving the critical natural habitats, there are tens of millions of acres in Texas suitable for energy production wind “. Development of “friendly” wind energy could produce enough energy to far exceed the objectives of 20% of the project “Energy from wind by 2030″ in the United States.

The Energy Technologies Institute (ETI), a consortium involving British public, has approved an investment of £25 million (29 million euros) in a program focused on the development and installation of a floating wind turbine prototype , 5-7 MW of capacity in deep water. The consortium expects to launch the first prototype, real scale, in 2016.

TSI is also seeking partners to join the project and has called a Request for Proposals (RFP) to entities that want to get involved in the project. The deadline to confirm intention to bid is the next 6 January 2012, according to TSI. Then, the deadline for submission of the bid itself expire on 27 March. Among the potential candidates could be several Spanish companies such as Iberdrola, Acciona and Gamesa, as well as Alstom (French engineering of wind technology whose operations are performed from Barcelona). All of them are involved in both floating and their projects in the proposed marine park test promoted by the Institute of Energy Research (IREC) on the coast of Tarragona, called Zefir. Moreover, Iberdrola, Gamesa and Alstom have shown explicitly their intention to be among the leading British offshore wind sector.

The draft TSI look for a location near the coast in waters between sixty and one hundred meters of profanity, according to the British Institute. The prototype will operate as a demonstrator to verify their behavior and performance, “to prove he is capable of generating high levels of energy and time, which can be maintained without the need for specially designed ships,” he adds. Then, the facility would operate for eight years, subject to a continuous process of technological development. TSI The consortium consists of six industry groups, along with the British government. To date, has announced investments totaling £133 million in projects involving marine energy, distributed energy, energy efficiency in building and energy storage. The game includes an investment of 43 million pounds in offshore wind.
