Photovoltaic platform located on the site Soptrans was inaugurated last week by the CEO of Geodis (Pierre Blayau) and President of STVA (Pierre Enderlé), a subsidiary of SNCF responsible for freight and the delivery of finished cars and vehicles.
Implemented by EDF Energies Nouvelles, the platform is covered with more than 33,000 photovoltaic panels on a surface of 57,000 m² which makes her one of the largest facilities of its kind in France.
This plant will annually produce approximately 10 GWh is the annual electricity consumption of 4,000 households and avoid the emission of 1,200 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
This achievement is part of the sustainable development policy of STVA optimizing the use of storage space and improving working conditions for employees. Indeed, the panels installed above the storage area where the employees are also involved a heat shield which helps regulate the temperature in the vehicle. Moreover, it is also an effective protection against the possibility of hail.
“This facility is emblematic of the involvement of Geodis for the three pillars of sustainable development. It illustrates our commitment to innovation ever to serve our customers, our employees and our citizens. It will, like many other steps Group meet our commitment to improve our carbon efficiency by 20% by 2020, “said Pierre Blayau said on this occasion.
Plans for new roofs with photovoltaic panels are now studying other sites and STVA Geodis Logistics.
STVA was one of the first signatories of the charter carriers transport undertakings CO2 reductions in 2007. Ortrans its subsidiary, near Lyon, has also won in July 2012 the silver trophy of sustainable logistics in Rhône-Alpes, for the implementation of its industrial wood boiler Ambérieu-en-Bugey.
