enXco, the U.S. subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles, announced Wednesday the signing of an agreement with Cielo Wind Power, developer and operator of wind farms, to buy the wind power project development Spinning Spur, Texas, with a capacity of 161 MW.
The Spinning Spur Wind Project, located in Oldham County, west of Amarillo, Texas, is the first wind farm in Texas enXco. It has 70 turbines Siemens with a capacity of 2.3 MW.
The electricity produced will be sold to the U.S. company Southwestern Public Company, a 100% subsidiary of Xcel Energy, as part of a contract for sale of electricity (PPP) for a period of 15 years.
Construction should start in the first half for a start-up of the park in December 2012.
“The situation of the U.S. wind market and uncertainty about the renewal of tax credits (Production Tax Credit) in 2012 after creating partnership opportunities with major developers like Cielo Wind Power. This is especially a great opportunity for us to invest the Texas market as a producer of wind power,” said David Corchia, CEO of EDF Energies Nouvelles.
