The renewable energy branch of Alstom announced it has signed a letter of intent with a leading Brazilian developers on the market for wind power, to equip farms in the state of Rio Grande do Norte (north of Brazil).
With a value of about 230 million euros, the project initiated by Casa dos Ventos, involves the delivery of 68 wind turbines for ECO 122 wind farms located in the area of João Câmara. It represents a production capacity of over 180 MW. Alstom provides that the contract should be signed by the end of September.
In addition, the turbines will be manufactured at Alstom Renewable Power Camaçari located in the state of Bahia, which opened in November 2011. The new plant has a capacity of 300 MW per year with a team that capacity will be doubled in the second half of 2013 with a second team.
According to Alstom, equipment production of electricity from wind record growth rates the highest in Brazil. About 7 GW of capacity have already been contracted. Potential of the country is estimated at 300 GW and actors in the energy sector in Brazil include the implementation of 2.5 GW per year of by 2020.
“This agreement with Casa dos Ventos is an important step in strengthening our presence in the wind energy market in Brazil and Latin America. Alstom develops its technology, its manufacturing and supply to meet the needs in the region” said Marcos Costa, President of Alstom in Brazil. “The company has already installed or will install more than 2,300 wind turbines in the world, with a total capacity of over 3,200 MW. Our offer in the generation of electricity from wind power increases the range of solutions offered by Alstom for reduce CO2 emissions, “said Jerome Pécresse, President of Alstom Renewable Power.
In addition to the project with Casa dos Ventos, Alstom has signed three contracts on the generation of electricity from wind power in Brazil. The first, about 100 million, was spent with Desenvix, a subsidiary of Engevix for the equipment of a 90 MW complex in Bahia, with 10 years of operations and maintenance costs. Brotas complex is composed of three farms with 57 turbines Alstom ECO 86, with an output of 1.67 MW.
In 2011, Alstom has signed a contract worth approximately € 200 million for the construction and maintenance of three farms on behalf of Brasventos SA in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. The contract includes the supply, installation and maintenance of wind turbines ECO 86.
Finally, in 2012, Alstom has developed an agreement with Odebrecht Energia to equip four farms in southern Brazil. Sites Corredor do Senandes II, III and IV, and I Vento Aragano in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, will have a production capacity of 108 MW. Alstom will supply, install and ensure the start of ECO 40 wind turbines 122, with a unit capacity of 2.7 MW.
