Siemens wants to become the third largest manufacturer of wind turbines, second only to Vestas and General Electric, beating Enercon, Gamesa and Suzlon-REpower.

Siemens plans to build wind turbine factories in Brazil, India and Russia in 2011, said Rene Umlauft, head of renewable energy division of the German company.

Siemens has just received its first order of wind turbines in Brazil, which paves the way to install its first factory there, while India plans to achieve its first order in the next few weeks.

Siemens hopes to create a joint venture with its Russian partners and RusHydro Rostechnology in the spring of 2011. Siemens wants to sell 2,500 MW in Russia in the coming years. Siemens, a leader in offshore wind energy, wants to focus on onshore wind, and return to the German market, where Enercon is the market leader.
