The two wind farms in Gibara, in the northeastern province of Holguín, delivered in the past three and a half years approximately 30,000 MWh to the national electric system.

Cuban specialists will drive in the second half of the current year to take advantage of research of wind power and other renewables. The investigation sought to determine the most feasible in order to build a new wind farm, preferably in the area of the northern coast of eastern Cuba, the best wind currents.

The wind equipment installed in different parts of the archipelago seek to determine the wind speed, altitude and average temperatures. The two wind farms in Gibara, in the northeastern province of Holguín, delivered in the past three and a half years approximately 30,000 MWh national electric system.

According to Prensa Latina that Cuba allowed production to save more than five thousand 800 tons of oil and prevented release into the atmosphere 21 000 tons of carbon dioxide. For experts, this type of energy, exhibiting a significant increase worldwide, non-polluting, slows the depletion of fossil fuels and help prevent climate change.
