The kingdom of Morocco is interested in clean energy sources. Having plenty of sun around the year, this African country will invest $9 billion in the harvesting of solar power.

Morocco is to build 5 solar power plants which will harvest about 2 GW of sun energy supplying the needs of nearly half its population by 2020. The first plant is to be launched by 2015. These measures will save Morocco money and reduce its dependence on imported fossil fuel.

Finance Minister of Morocco says this project will set the target for the rest of the world in improving the environmental issue and contribute in reducing the carbon footprint. The Moroccan government will continue to work on other environmental projects in the region.

The government already partnered with the World Bank, the European Commission and Desertec to make the solar power project up and running.
