You will be surprized how easily a source of energy could be found. Wind, the Sun, ocean waves etc. But one seems to be the easiest of them all. Just mix salt water and fresh water and – here you go! – carbon-neutral energy which is called osmotic power. A Norwegian company called Statkraft has just opened in its home country the first ever osmotic power plant.
For now the plant will be testing and continuing to develop the technology. But when the osmotic power is commercially used, analysts predict it a bright future with a capacity to supply as much as the half of all the Europe’s current energy production. But for now, as it was already said, the plant is just a testing bed with a capacity to produce from 2 to 4 kW which may be enough for a coffee machine but obviously won’t work even for a small shed.
